We are incredibly lucky to live in the heart of East Yorkshire.

When it comes to things to do, you won't struggle for ideas...

Bridlington, Scarborough and Hornsea Beach fronts are accessible within the hour, there’s the newly appointed City of Culture just a train ride away, not to mention the beautiful grounds, historical buildings and churches  to go and explore.

But what’s to do on your doorstep?....

Here’s our honest, unbiased top ten – in no particular order.

1.) Hire and boat

Beverley Boat hire gives us the wonderful opportunity to explore the most beautiful stretches of water the area has to offer. Take the family out on  a rowing or motor  boat and discover the stunning views and striking nature reserves.

2.) Enjoy a trip to the Theatre!

As well as an array of incredible performances, from June – August East Riding Theatre are holding a celebration of young talent in the East Riding.

There will be plays from a host of new writers, two five day summer schools, quiz nights and an exciting new devised project with Mike Friend (Oliver Twist, Sparrow.)

3.) Have a picnic in Coronation Gardens

Set in the heart of the Georgian Quarter, the picturesque gardens is the perfect setting for an intimate family picnic on a summers day.

4.) A day at the Races

A popular English tradition and a super fun day for all ages. Mum, Dad and kids are certain to enjoy the thrill and electric atmosphere that comes as part and parcel with the sport of kings!

Beverley has so much history and is very fortunate to have St Marys Church and Beverley Minster so easily accessible.

Walk  around and  take in the incredible architecture and even get involved with an incredible range of exhibitions or take in the stunning views from Minster Bell Tower.

8.) Find some hidden treasure

Beverley’s Treasure house is a one stop centre for information services. The tower also offers amazing views from a different side of Beverley.

They also offer a number of exhibitions. Find more info here.

9.) Go see the cows!

More often than not it’s the simple things that make us happy and what can be more satisfying and therapeutic then a chilled out walk on the Westwood.

The unspoilt, beautiful pastureland can be enjoyed with the family, with the dog or with friends!

10.) Take a Saturday – or Wednesday  Market Trip

Wednesday and Saturday Market place sees a  vibrant array of stalls every single week.
